“Bonek has high potential as the progress of the nation”

That stands what quoted of Mbah Nun, a role pattern of our nation when he pondering Bonek in an extra plenary perspective. Bonek, Persebaya Surabaya militant supporter who wasn’t born in organizing planning. They were turned naturally, because of social agreements that strengthened by the mass media. This one supporter have their own uniqueness. From the history of their birth, the ins and outs of their journey, their behavior, their controversies, their breakthroughs and anything related to Bonek will unquestionably produce another color concentration in this motherland.

Bonek was born because of a stand of solidarity, which arose because of the hot coals of fire from their personality, which grew on the ground because that was what God arranged. Beginning from tens of thousands of spirits from Surabaya and East Java, especially those who moved to Jakarta just only to support Persebaya Surabaya at the expense of what could be sacrificed. Until now it was recognized or not, Bonek became a weatherglass of football supporters in Indonesia. This is very cumbersome. Yonder mind. Brave reckless. The first plus the biggest in the memoir of Indonesian football.

The Bonek phenomenon stretches to roll coloring Indonesian football. Decorating and tarnishing is their dynamics. The triumphant and slumped period has become the wheel of the easement. Gold and black ink are pieces of their big name. Yes, big names don’t become big because Bonek constructed it, but Bonek big because Bonek is actually the biggest, the largest, the longest in Indonesia. This is not snobbishness in work, but the fact that states.

Bonek presence in social connection, especially the world of football, is a new magnet in the enthusiasm of Indonesian football. Bonek comes from the bottom up, from the roots that grow into lush trees. They grow by themselves, not grow treated because of the touch of the hand, wasn’t from top to bottom. That is the uniqueness, they are recognized with ‘no leader just together’, attached to ‘low profile high product’. The meaning is among all of Bonek, their position is the equal that face by Persebaya.

Bonek decisions are a decision on deliberation, weren’t because of determined by one or two people only. Bonek demeanor where demeanor of togetherness, the demeanor of ‘loro siji loro kabeh’, aka if there was one that undermines their good name, they all hit the sap. If someone scents Bonek name, they all fragrant. Thus, the method is ‘tepo seliro’, common respect for each other. The elderly escort the young, the younger regard to the old.

Bonek mainstream structural absenteeism advances they became the East Javanese’ supporter that influential with culture, histories, also stories. Bonek literally matched the representative of Surabaya characteristics, East Java’s ‘ambassador’ to manifest all over Indonesia about what is called arek culture, about the essence of football. They sending East Java symbols to be introduced to Indonesia through Persebaya and football. They bring localized euphoria that is united in the degree of nationalism. And eventually, may God grant Bonek with their Persebaya to acquaint whereby fanatic Indonesia in football to all eyes of the world. (*)

Nowadays, people are familiar with Ultras in Italy, Hooligans in the UK and Barra Brava in Latin America as representatives of fanatical & militant supporters in the world of football. But you know, there is something hidden behind what appears, who is not defeated in terms of fanatics and militancy to support their devotion club. This is Bonek, the supporter from Persebaya Surabaya. Indonesia legendary club was born since June 18, 1927, the club which is one of the initiators of the Indonesia football federation inception in 1930.

Bonek is a Javanese acronym from Bondo Nekat. Implicitly, Bonek is a circle of supporters who only have the courage to support their favorite team, wherever and whenever Persebaya competes. The origin of Bonek began to emerge in the 80s where at that time tens of thousands of Bonek flocked with the very little grant to Jakarta, which was 800 kilometers away to support Persebaya in the Indonesian League finals. At that time, there were no supporters in Indonesia who dared to go away to the opposing stadium in large quantity except Bonek. What is phenomenal is the fluttering of a giant banner that reads “Kami Haus Gol Kamu” which in English means we are thirsty for your goal. The banner has become phenomenal and continues to be a tagline of support for Persebaya

Uniquely, the Bonek term is not their own name, but from the mass media that gave rise to the term Bonek in their headline’s news. Jawa Pos, a daily newspaper-based mass media that also originates from Surabaya has an important role in the emergence and reporting of Bonek in the 80s until now. Dahlan Iskan, who at that time was leading Jawa Pos, indeed had the desire to bring up the unique attributes of Bonek with this green color. Until the symbol emerged from Bonek, which was given the name “Ndas Mangap” which is also a Javanese acronym, which means a head of the yawn. The symbol represents how heroic Bonek was when he supported Persebaya which is famous for its “low profile high product.”

Discussing Bonek, they’ve many stories about. Like selling his favorite motorcycle, selling his used clothes, pawning his wedding ring, leaving or being fired from his job to the point of sacrificing his life in support of Persebaya. Or stories about Bonek when seven years of fighting for the forced death of Persebaya by the federation which made Persebaya not compete for approximately three years. Or Bonek stories that are transformed into a new face with their creativity in supporting Persebaya which is now the focus of other supporters.

In addition, the author will narrate more deeply and more broadly in subsequent articles. The author will review both Persebaya’s side, players, the dynamics supporters, and related contours. Pray for the author to have consistency in writing the second, third, hundredth and subsequent articles. But if your curious beat the readers, come to Surabaya, the eastern tip of the island of Java from Indonesia. Feel, enjoy and remember the atmosphere! (*)

EJ – On Thursday (7/3), Persebaya Surabaya will face their classic rival since “Perserikatan Era”, Persib Bandung, on match day 2 Grup A of President Cup 2019 at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung.

Djadjang Nurdjaman, head coach of Persebaya, will return to the bench after missing the first game due to the AFC Pro course. However, Djanur, his nickname, will face difficult choices related to their goalkeeper. As we know, the Surabaya giant has three goalkeepers this season who have almost similiar technical ability. They are Miswar Saputra and two new promising signing players, Abdul Rohim (former PSMS’s player) and Imam Arief Fadillah (former Persib’s third goal keeper). As his first goalie ,Miswar Saputra, has shown under-performed in the last match and Djanur seems to be in complicated situation.

Many voices expect that it is time for Miswar Saputra to be placed on the bench. Whereas Abdul Rohim or Imam Arief will be given an opportunity to seal a starter position in next two days match. Assistant coach, Bejo Sugiantoro, said after a thrilling match against Perseru Serui: “If you make a mistake, Miswar has indeed been made one (on first goal). It will go back to Coach Djanur’s final decision.”

Who will be set for starter goalkeeper? Let’s wait together. May Djanur’s best strategy and players lineup can win and seal the game! (dpp)

EJ – Amido Balde continued to score in his last four matches with Persebaya Surabaya. His previous match against Perseru Serui (2/3) at President Cup 2019, he scored two equaliser goals which inspired Persebaya’s dramatic victory 2-3 win after left two goals behind before break. Overall, the 27-year-old striker has scored 12 goals in four consecutive matches.

Nevertheless, the performance of the Guinea-Bissau international players is still being criticized by Bonek, a loyal supporter of Persebaya Surabaya. Some of them feel that Baldé does not have enough strength to protect the ball and enough will to chase the ball controlled by the opposing player.

But Balde once again gave a firm answer to his critics. That he can still score goals. Although the goals he scored were mostly through headers. Not surprising to me, because indeed with a body height of 193 cm the ability to jump higher than the opponent’s defender becomes its flagship weapon.

The sharpness of the former Glasgow Celtic player will be tested again on Thursday (7/3) when Persebaya Surabaya faces its classic rival, Persib Bandung. With a more equal quality of players, the Persib squad will provide more resistance and certainly promise a layered defense.

So Balde, could threaten Persib Bandung’s goal and give another victory for Persebaya? We thirst for your goals! (dpp)
